FAQ

Q. What is Balayage? Is Balayage for me?

A. Balayage [bah-ley-ahzh] is a hair highlighting technique in which lightener is painted onto the hair to lighten it in a natural-looking way. Using balayage to highlight the hair is a great way to give a sun-kissed and lived in look that requires fewer appointments and longer time between services. That being said, balayage highlights typically do not go all the way to the root. Do you love low maintenance color with lots of contrast and dimension? YAY!!! You would love balayage from any of our f&m stylists! Do you want to be primarily blonde and cannot stand seeing your roots peaking through after four-ish weeks or so? That’s great too, though balayage probably is not the best service for you.

Q. HELP! I (or my friend) did my color at home and its not the color i want…

A. At home hair color is not professional quality, even if it says so on the box. At home hair color (AHHC) uses stronger chemicals and lower quality dyes that are more harsh and damaging to the hair. Some AHHC even use textile grade dyes, like what’s used to dye carpets and fabrics. When you go into any salon with AHHC on your hair, your stylist has a major project on their hands and you both have to work together with loads of time and patience to get you even close to that ‘hair goals/hair inspo’ Pinterest vision board. You will likely have to come in for at least 2 appointments to get you close to the goal, usually 4+ appointments to get you where you want. Corrective color is not cheap, at any salon you go to, and be wary of any stylist that promises you they can give you your goal in one session for fairly cheap prices. If you want to go darker, that is less challenging but still no walk in the park for your stylist. If you want to go lighter/more dimensional/blonde, prepare to invest a lot of time and money to keep your hair on your head. Healthy hair is happy hair!

Q. Should I get Bangs?

A. The first question you have to ask yourself is: ‘Do I want bangs or am I just wanting to immediately change something about my physical appearance?’ If the answer is a change to your physical appearance, maybe a hair color change of some sort. Bangs are a major style commitment that require daily styling to get them just right and take several months to grow out if you regret them. If you don’t mind the task of styling your hair every day, you’ve always wanted to try bangs, or have had them before and want them again then go for it! Otherwise, let’s work together to find a better solution to your style change desires that are less permanent.
